#WOTW: Predictive Analytics – moves forward from the limitation of descriptions of the past and attempts to predict the future. More complex statistical modelling techniques and algorithms are applied to data to suggest what will happen. Importantly, no predictions are 100% certain to happen and the best will also give a probability or confidence assessment. This is where HR now aims to be at. Note that in the past this used to be done by a human not by tech, so it’s not new! It is the opportunity to interrogate big data more readily that tech offers us. To follow my example, a predictive report on staffing levels might tell you that next month you were set to be pretty tight on resourcing. (Distinguish descriptive and prescriptive analytics)
